A marathon day dedicated to rescue: ostrich, fallow deer, macaws, buzzards and kookaburras rescued.
During this rescue operation, the Animal Disaster Team (ADT) joined ARS in Mechelen, responding to the call of the Rivierenland Police to rescue several exotic animals.
The day began with the thrilling care of five fallow deer, weakened by extreme thinness. Our teams worked to extract these animals following teleanaesthesias performed by the veterinarian.
Then came the challenge of the ostrich, with its massive beak and imposing claws. We managed to secure the bird, carefully transferring it to a shelter suitable for its needs.
The day had only just begun. Two desert buzzards, two kookaburras and six macaws were next on our rescue list. Locked in cramped enclosures, some without natural light for too long, these birds desperately needed to get out.
Thanks to our combined efforts, all these animals have been safely transferred to NatuurHulp, a sanctuary where they will receive much-needed care and living space. This is where they will be able to recover from their past ordeals.
