RESCUE OF 100 MISTREATED SHEEP IN ROCHEFORT

Last night, an unprecedented rescue operation was carried out in Rochefort by the Animal Welfare Unit, in collaboration with ADT – Animal Disaster Team. Together, they rescued around 100 sheep in extreme distress, revealing the horror hidden behind the gates of a local breeding farm.

The conditions in which the sheep were found are scarcely imaginable. Crammed into cramped spaces, some were buried under mountains of manure, while others were forced to navigate through debris and excrement to get around a dark, inhospitable shed. Rescuers had to face these deplorable conditions to extract these poor animals, whose suffering was unbearable.

These sheep had received no proper care for years. Their wool was soiled and matted, their bodies infested with parasites, and their hooves so neglected that they were up to 15 centimeters long, making every movement extremely painful. Faced with this disastrous situation, it was imperative to act quickly.

The owner of the farm fled the premises before the authorities arrived, but he won’t be able to escape justice. Charges of animal abuse weigh heavily against him, and society will not tolerate such cruel acts against innocent living creatures.

Thirty of them have been entrusted to the Silence Animal Association, where they will receive the attentive care they so desperately need. The others have been distributed among several partner shelters such as Help Animals, Veeweyde Refuge du Marais, La petite Ferme de Belvie, Equi’chance, Le rêve dAby and Natur’Horses, where they will receive the love and attention they need to recover from their ordeals and regain their dignity.
